Warning: Fraudulent guides operating on site

Important notices regarding guided tours on our premises
Thank you for your continued patronage of our museum. In recent years, we have seen an increase in guided tours on our premises providing misrepresented information.

At this time, the following behaviors have been identified:

  • Disseminating misinformation about the culture of geiko and maiko
  • Misusing the names of facilities and places
  • Providing inaccurate explanations of the history and customs in the Kagai area

The Gion Kagai Culture Museum and the Gion Kobu community are taking this situation very seriously. The culture of the Gion Kobu quarter is founded on its long history and tradition of courtesy. The spreading of inaccurate information that is not based on thorough research and study, both within Japan and overseas, may lead to misunderstandings of our culture and damage our reputation.

We therefore strictly prohibit the dissemination of inaccurate information on our premises, as well as any guiding activities that significantly distort our culture. If such behavior is observed, our staff may approach you. If you do not comply with their instructions, we may ask you to leave the premises.

We strongly recommend to anyone considering a visit or trip to the area that they consult reliable sources (such as the official Gion Kobu website which is maintained by the Gion community, or our museum’s official website) to avoid being misled by inaccurate information.

The Gion Kagai Culture Museum is committed to preserving and promoting the authentic culture of Gion. If you have any comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
